Step 3: Turn off User Account Control
If you use Windows XP, skip this step, and then continue with Step 4.
1. Click the Start button, and then click Control Panel.
2. In the Control Panel window, click User Accounts and Family Safety > User Accounts.
3. Depending on your version of Windows, do one of the following:
- For Windows 7: Under Make changes to your user account, click Change User Account Control settings.
- For Windows Vista: Under Make changes to your user account, click Turn User Account Control on or off, and then go to line 5.
4. In the User Account Control Settings window, move the slider to Never notify, and then click OK.
5. Depending on your version of Windows, do one of the following:
- For Windows 7: In the User Account Control window, click Yes.
- For Windows Vista: In the User Account Control window, click Continue, and then uncheck Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer.
6. Exit all the programs, and restart your computer.
Step 4: Run LiveUpdate
- Start your Norton 2012 product.
- In the main window, click LiveUpdate.
- When LiveUpdate finishes installing all the updates, click OK.
Step 5: Turn on User Account Control
If you use Windows XP, then you are done with this document.
- Click the Start button, and then click Control Panel.
- In the Control Panel window, click User Accounts and Family Safety > User Accounts.
- Depending on your version of Windows, do one of the following:
- For Windows 7: Under Make changes to your user account, click Change User Account Control settings.
- For Windows Vista: Under Make changes to your user account, click Turn User Account Control on or off.
- Depending on your version of Windows, do one of the following:
- For Windows 7: In the User Account Control Settings window, move the slider to choose when you want to be notified.If you have not changed the User Account Control settings before, then move the slider to Default – Notify me only when programs try to make changes to my computer.
- For Windows Vista: Check Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer.
- Click OK.

Exit all the programs, and then restart the computer.
