  • Run in all Windows versions, from 9x to 7, and features 64 bit version for better performances on 64 bit systems, moreover features a portable version that does not need to be installed and can run from USB drives, and Linux versions with the same GUI

Release notes

  • PeaZip brings various speed and responsiveness improvements, especially when handling thousands of files at once in the file/archive manager.
  • The new release also introduces many usability improvements like simpler search and renaming functions, better UAC integration, improved address bar, more
  • information provided during job’s execution, and re-organized keyboard shortcuts.
  • Package files were further optimized in size providing by default only the synthetic localized mini tutorial, while the PDF help file is now available online and can
  • be separately viewed or saved by users, only if needed.
  • The file manager now features a fully integrated tool to find duplicate files or calculating CRC/hash using a wide array of algorithms, operating on selected files, or on files displayed in current directory or search filter.
  • Pea backend was updated to 0.39 version.
  • A total of 134 file extensions are supported, and translations are available in 27 languages.

Hints

  • PeaZip is a free archiver, available as portable and installable software for Windows and Linux.
  • Create 7Z, ARC, BZ2, GZ, *PAQ, PEA, QUAD/BALZ, TAR, UPX, ZIP
  • Extract ACE, ARJ, CAB, DMG, ISO, LHA, RAR, UDF and many more file formats
  • PeaZip allows to create, convert and extract multiple archives at once, create self-extracting archives, bookmark archives and folders, apply powerful search filters, scan and open files with custom applications, apply strong encryption, split/join files, secure data deletion, calculate checksum and hash, view image thumbnails…

On networks, the application can be made available to multiple users, either whith a shared configuration or with separate configuration for each user, see “Settings” and “Customization and scripting” in the help file, that also contain useful hints for enhancing PeaZip’s system integration.

You can freely replace backend executables in PeaZip/res directory (any PeaZip release/package) with updated ones (as long as they support the same syntax) or with 64 bit counterpart, if available.

PeaZip Portable does not modify the host system: it can be simply extracted in the path you prefer, even on the network or on removable devices as USB sticks. A writable path is recommended for running PeaZip Portable, in order to let the application update the configuration and the persistent randomness collector, as in the portable version all files are contained inside the directory of the application. The application needs at least to write to disk the configuration the first time it runs so please check if the selected path is writable and in case of problems try running the application as administrator to have needed UAC permissions.

To extract ACE files it is needed a separate plugin (due to UNACE freeware but closed source nature) available in Add-ons page.

  • PeaZip is available in many different languages, click Options > Localization to modify language of the GUI. If you are willing to contribute a translation check information in peazip-x.y.about_translations.zip file.
  • PeaZip’s sources (LGPL v3) are written in FreePascal and requires Lazarus IDE, see notes for developers
  • PAD files: PeaZip, PeaZip (64 bit), PeaZip Portable

Install/uninstall on Windows

  • To run unattended installation launch the Windows installer with /SILENT parameter; use /VERYSILENT for background installation, without notification to the users.
  • To re-configure system integration (file associations, context menu and send to menu entries), you can use Options > Settings > System integration link.
  • To use the application in scripts, please refer to the documentation (F1).
  • On install, PeaZip creates some useful entries in SendTo menu that can be simply copied to one user to another as needed, they are located in C:Documents and Settings (username) SendTo (Windows XP) or C:Users(username)AppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsSendTo (Vista/7), assuming C as system’s disk.
  • When unistalled, PeaZip restores files association with Windows’ Compressed Folders, for the supported file types.
  • In any moment, to manually restore file associations with Compressed Folders utility run: cmd /c assoc .zip=CompressedFolder replacing .zip with any file extension it is desired to be associated to Compressed Folder utility.
  • To restore file associations with a previous archiver software please refer to its own documentation, usually it can be done running the program’s setup package or from the application itself.
  • PeaZip is based on solid and proven Open Source technology of 7-Zip for handling mainstream file formats, and other Open Source technology for supporting additional formats and features.
  • This utility will open for free RAR, TAR, ZIP and many more archive formats, on Benchmarks page you can see how does it compare with other archivers like WinRar and WinZip in real world usage, i.e. to extract RAR or ZIP files, and confront speed and compression ratio of various archiving utility over a wide range of archive types.
