Apple Pushes iOS-like features in Mountain Lion
Apple Inc., California-based company, has launched new version of Macintosh operating system i.e. Mountain Lion or Mac OS X 10.8, which is the ninth major release in this regard. This version is yet available to the Mac Developer Program members and it will be available to the other users from Mac App Store late summer 2012.
Apple has integrated some of the features of iPhone and iPad to the computer as Tim Cook, Chief Executive of Apple Inc., wants to make its Mac more like an iPhone or iPad. This new version of OS comes with Messages, Notes, Reminders and Notification Center, Game Center, Share sheets and Twitter integration, and AirPlay Mirroring. The company has also announced the complete ease and utilization of iCloud and has introduced “Gatekeeper”. One astonishing aspect in this release is no integration of Facebook like or recommend. It is possible that Apple will integrate this feature in the version for users. The company has also not announced about the Google Plus feature.
“The Mac is on a roll, growing faster than the PC for 23 straight quarters, and with Mountain Lion things get even better,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “The developer preview of Mountain Lion comes just seven months after the incredibly successful release of Lion and sets a rapid pace of development for the world’s most advanced personal computer operating system.”
The new Messages app in Mountain Lion has replaced iChat allowing the users to send unlimited messages, pictures and videos from one Mac to another iOS device. This feature in beta version can be downloaded but the final version will be available with Mountain Lion.
Reminders and Notes help the users of the OS to develop and maintain record of the tasks.
Game Center is for playing the games either alone or with friends whether on Mac, iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.
Twitter is integrated in Mountain Lion helping users to share tweets from Safari, Photo Booth, Quick Look, Preview and third party apps after signing in once.
Airplay Mirroring allows users for 720p video streaming from Mac on HDTV using Apple TV.
Gatekeeper is a security feature allowing users to have a complete control over the installation of apps to get rid of malicious software.
Apple has also considered Chinese users as it has introduced Chinese input method and to select Baidu search in Safari.
