Free Dell VoIP Windows Phone app coming for Canadians

For those Windows Phone owners who reside in Canada and are frustrated with considerably high mobile phone bills accumulated from voice calls, Dell may have a solution for you soon. Partnering with Fongo to launch Dell Voice, a voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) service, mobile users will be able to make free calls over WiFi (or the 3G network) anywhere in Canada. A free phone number is included to accept incoming calls, and the service also includes free voicemail, Caller ID and call waiting.

The only downside is that users will exhibit advertising while using the app, and a $25 fee is charged should a user wish to transfer their phone number to the Dell Voice service. David Gair, Dell Canada’s marketing director for small and medium business, states that a Windows Phone app will be developed to go alongside solutions for iOS, Android, BlackBerry (launching this coming March), and the PC. It’s interesting to see the manufacturer head down this route (and to support Windows Phone), perhaps we could see them come back with another device?
