How to block unknown callers on Skype
Learn how to keep your Skype exclusive to those on your Contact list, and avoid annoying spam and people you don’t know.
You may have noticed that practically anyone can call your Skype. While this might be great when the only people who have your number are people you want to talk to, but that isn’t always the case.
Today’s marketing is pretty aggressive. Because of this, you may receive e-mail, texts, and calls from people trying to sell you something or run a scam. Unfortunately, this spam has leaked into Skype as well. Here are a few quick steps to prevent the people you don’t know from contacting you on Skype.
Step 1: Click on the Tools menu in Skype and choose Options.
Step 2: On the next screen that loads, choose the Privacy tab on the left-hand side.
Step 3: The first option in this tab is Privacy settings. Click the bubble next to “Only allow people from my Contact list to contact me.” Press Save before leaving this screen.
You may have noticed the Block contacts tab in this area, as well. This list can be used as an alternative to blocking all unknown callers if you can pinpoint the contacts that are spamming you. Simply right-click on someone in your contact or recent lists and choose Block this person.
Blocking contacts is not permanent, but users will remain on the list until you decide to remove them.
