Tip to Block a Website on a Computer

Internet is so open, you have got access to plenty of stuffs with few click of a mouse, this includes few things which you don’t want your kids to get access to, There are many applications available to block websites temporarily on a computer but the cost money, and are little complicated to operate.There is an easier and free option available to block few websites you want.

By editing the windows hosts file, you can block whatever website you want.

Step 1: Open Notepad (Run it as Administrator)

Step 2:  Open this path:

C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etca

Select All Files in the dropdown, now open the file nameshosts.

(Refer to the image on the right hand side)

Step 3: You can add 127.0.0.1 facebook.com at the bottom and keep adding the websites in new line if you want to block more websites

Now, when you open the websites in your browser, you will get this webpage is not available message in Google Chrome, Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage in Internet Explorer and Unable to connect in Mozilla Firefox.

This method will work only on the computer on which the host file has been edited and you need full access to it. However, if you are looking for blocking websites on a Home or Office network you can read this articles about blocking websites on a router.
