[Giveaway] Free Panda Antivirus, Internet Security, Global Protection 2013 for 6 months
Panda Global Protection 2013 is a reasonably comprehensive protection tool for one or more PCs in a home or small-business environment. The last version of the AV engine to be tested wasn’t a top player, but protection efficacy of Panda’s 2013 offering is as yet unknown. The suite is easy to use and on our PC had, as Panda claims, a light touch.
Panda Global Protection 2013 is a reasonably comprehensive protection tool for one or more PCs in a home or small-business environment. Global Protection 2013 is its top-of-the-range Internet Security (IS) product, with all the bells, whistles, vuvuzelas and ti’ko drums.
Internet Security is Panda Security’s mid-range product that combines all anti-malware layers of protection produced by the company, but lacks the modules for PC optimization, file encryption, file shredding and password management.
Panda has an excellent detection and removal reputation. They have passed all recent AV-Tests and earned high scores from AV-Comparatives. In fact, the average protection rate received by AV-Test for their internet security suite for the most recent six tests is 5.3 out of 6, or about 89%, which is above the industry average. They also score above industry average in repair at 79%. AV-Comparatives gave them a protection score of 98.6% in their July 2011 report, and they generally rate “fast” to “very fast” in the most recent performance tests published in July of 2011.
Panda Antivirus Pro 2013‘s colorful user interface breaks out of the trend toward pastels for security. It offers some uncommon features including a firewall, a virtual-machine safe browser, and network management. For actual protection against malware, though, you can do better.
Panda stopped participating in static tests by Virus Bulletin some years ago, but most labs continue to rate Panda technology. ICSA Labs and West Coast Labs both certify Panda for virus detection and removal. AV-Comparatives.org rated Panda ADVANCED+ (the highest rating) in its on-demand detection test and ADVANCED in a test using old virus definitions to simulate proactive response to zero-day threats. AV-Comparatives also runs months-long real-world tests to see how antivirus tools fare against literal zero-day threats; Panda earned a rating of ADVANCED in this test.
