How Amplify Is Hoping To Compete With Apple

When you think about tablet computers Apple is probably the first company that pops into your head because they are definitely leading the way at the moment. One day things will change and there are a lot of sharks circling them at the moment. Are you aware Apple is bragging about the amount of iPads they’ve already sold to educational institutions all around the world?

Amplify is the educational branch of News Corp and they are hoping to steal a chuck of the educational market. They already provide classrooms with great digital products and they’ve recently announced they are releasing a 10-inch tablet that is powered by Android. The reason Apple should be scared of them is because they’re not trying to target everyone.

Amplify’s new tablet is only going to focus on education because it knows it’s the easiest way to set itself apart. All the other companies are targeting everyone and the lack of a target customer is going to be their downfall. Because Amplify are focused on making things easier in the classroom they’ve been able to take their software to the next level and nobody who uses one will be left disappointed.

If you switch on any regular tablet you pick up at the store they don’t exactly remind you of being in a classroom. How would you like it if the interface of a tablet was set up with your studies in mind? The home screen would be organized into individual notebooks and each one would represent a course you were taking. The teacher would also have a special folder for each class they were teaching.

Organizing the class

One of the biggest features is the teacher’s ability to organize the class through the tablet. When you switched on your tablet the teacher would know you were there because it would automatically register you for the class. If you need something the teacher can send it to everyone which means they don’t need to go around handing materials out. They would even be able to check the apps you’re using to make sure you’re not messing around so there are some downsides too.

If you want to excel in your studies you will need a lot of software and textbooks. Instead of logging onto a computer terminal or walking to the library you will have everything neatly tucked away inside your tablet because it all comes pre-loaded. Encyclopedias, literacy tools, and educational apps will be available at your fingertips. The company is even in talks with publishers to provide you with even more books.

Knowing what to do

When you buy a new tablet from the store it’s sometimes hard to get up to speed with the device. It takes you a week or two to become comfortable with your new purchase when it’s for you, so how do you expect teachers to integrate it into their lessons when there are kids involved? Luckily Amplify recognizes this and it will provide all the support teachers need though phone calls, live chat, and email support throughout the day.

If an educational institution wants to buy these laptops there will be two different versions available. Just like the iPad they will have a Wi-Fi only version and one with 4G in case you want to access the internet when you’re on a class trip. They are already being piloted in selected districts at the moment, so if you cross your fingers you might have one in your hands sooner than you think.
