Samsung Galaxy S Duos 2 – Entry level Dual SIM Smartphone

Samsung Galaxy S Duos is a dual SIM smartphone that has been marketed and designed by Samsung electronics and in contrast with other Samsung models, this particular phone would be a part of the high end S series and is thus marketed as part of the Galaxy S family. The phone is featured with an Android operating system, version 4.0.4 ice cream sandwich and is marketed along with the proprietary interface of Samsung, the Touch wiz interface.

Though the gadget is an entry level Dual SIM smartphone of the Galaxy series of Samsung, unlike other entry level dual sim models from Samsung, the model is active in both its SIMs at all the times and is ready to receive calls on both the SIMs and the device is always ready to receive calls with both the SIM when one sim is already busy with a call. On the other hand, as an option, the device could also equip itself to receive two calls simultaneously but would require setting up of divert on busy setting on both the numbers so that they would be made available from the carrier. This service may incur additional call charges but would be quite useful for busy people who are likely to get calls on their mobiles at all times. But there is one limitation with this Galaxy S Duos that is only one SIM could be active on UMTS at a time and thus this technology could be unsuitable for some network combinations.



Samsung has announced the launch of two dual SIM smartphones to hap simultaneously in the country and the models would be dubbed as Galaxy S Duos 2 and Galaxy Y Duos Lite and the cost of these two smartphones would be around Rs 17,990 and Rs 6,990 respectively in India. At the time of its launch, Samsung Galaxy Duos would feature a 4 inch display at a resolution quality of 480×800 pixels, a 1 GHz processor and a 5 MP rear camera and a VGA front camera. According to the sources from Samsung, the device is features with android 4.0 versions, internal storage of 4 GB and an RAM speed of 512 MB. The gadget is powered by a smart dual sim feature and allows users to receive calls on both the SIM slots simultaneously, so that users would never miss a call at any time of the day.

By this initiative Samsung is seeking to fuel the growth of Dual SIM market in India through the launch of their innovative dual SIM technology, the company is also trying to democratize the trend of smartphones in the country through this initiative. It has to be noted that Samsung is the provider of 5 dual SIM smartphone models and in total 13 smartphone models in the country.

The smartphone has been listed on the India online store of Samsung at a cost of Rs. 10,999. The device is available extensively through online retailers and drop shippers at a very comfortable and discounted price and they also guarantee delivery of the device in a minimum of 3 business days.


Galaxy S Duos 2 offered with a 4-inch WVGA TFT display with a 480×800 pixels. The device is powered by a dual-core 1.2 GHz processor of unspecified chipset.  The display of the device could support 16 million colors. The device would feature dual SIM of GSM+GSM network and would run on Android Jelly Bean OS v4.2 with the classical Touch Wiz user interface that is the signature product of Samsung.


Galaxy S Duos 2 would feature a 5MP as a main camera with LED flash to record a number of motion pictures and images, and would also include a front facing VGA camera to facilitate video calling and self-imaging. The smartphone is offered with a RAM speed of 768 MB and has an inbuilt storage of 4 GB that could further get expanded to about 64 GB with the help of a micro SD card.

There is scope for ambient connectivity features in the Samsung Galaxy S Duos 2 and these connectivity features would include Bluetooth at v4.0 with A2DP, WiFi at 802.11 b/g/n, WiFi direct and WiFi hotspot, GPRS, EDGE and 3G connectivity. These ambient functionalities are powered by a 1500 mAh battery that is capable of delivering a talk time of 8 hours and a standby time of 280 hours. The average dimensions of the device include 121.5×63.1×10.57 mm and would weigh roughly 118 grams.
