Snowbird – Free search software for Windows

Posted In Utilities - By Techtiplib on Monday, August 4th, 2014 With No Comments »

Snowbird is a freeware for Windows which can search for files either by name or by content. However, searching the contents of files takes more time than just searching for filenames.

This search software for Windows uses the standard cut-copy-paste model for copying and moving data, which should be familiar to most users.

Search results open in a new window, which is identical to a regular file browsing window barring navigation facilities. In this regard, the search results window is like a virtual folder with files from different locations, and you can perform all standard file management operations on these files.

The search process takes place in the background, and whenever a matching file or folder is found, it is immediately displayed in the results window. The search automatically terminates when more than 1000 results are found – you will see a message at the top of the window indicating this, and you should narrow your search to get better results.

New in version 7.0:

  • First stable release of Snowbird 7
  • Added a “Preferences” window with many configurable settings
  • Search results now appear in the same window
  • Added “Back” and “Stop” buttons to the toolbar for search results
  • Properties window now includes the full path to the file/folder
  • “Open with” menu option expanded into “Open in” submenu
  • Added “New Window” button to the toolbar
