Using the Internet to Act Against Climate Change

Climate change is a big concern for many people in the world today, but for others, it doesn’t seem to bother them at all. A lot of people are in denial about the fact that the world’s resources will most likely run out eventually, and if we don’t pull together and do something about it, it could be much sooner than we all would like it to be. The internet is a powerful tool for making your voice known, and here are some of the things that you can do by using the internet to help you.

internet and Climate Change

1. Create an online petition

Online petitions can be created very easily and free of charge, so there’s no reason why you can’t start making a noise right now. Don’t create a petition which is very general, though. Think about a problem in society or with the environment, such as fracking, and create a petition against that. It’s better to be even more specific, and state the area which you’re trying to stop the problem. Don’t make it too limited, however, or you won’t get as many people standing with you. Once you’ve created the petition, ask all your friends to sign and share it. Join forums and other online communities in order to gather as many people as possible for your petition.

2. Organise a protest

You can protest with others who share the same mind as you about climate change. By protesting, it gives you and others the chance to voice your opinions and get other people to see you. You might even get more followers by doing this, since other people will agree with you. When it comes to matters of a moral nature, you’ll find that most members of society will be on your side, but whether they’re bothered enough to help you and do something practical is another matter! You can organise a protest by signing up on certain websites for your area. Other activists or people interested in climate change will then be able to search, and your organised protest will come up. Approach other organizations too, since this can give you a boost if they’re interested in helping you.

3. Get on Facebook and Twitter

Create a Facebook group and page to raise awareness about the particular issue, and start tweeting on Twitter. You can tweet politicians and celebrities to try and get them to retweet, sign your petition or support your case. It might seem like a long shot, but you never know what might become of it! Getting a lot of likes and members to your Facebook page and group will ensure that your cause is being seen by other people. Friends of friends will start to see it, and if you can gather just a handful of people who are as passionate as you are about stopping climate change, you could really make a difference.

4. Write about it

One of the best things you can do is start writing articles and blog posts about your opinions. Start a free blog using a website such as WordPress or Blogger. You can start to gather followers and people who are interested in reading what you have written. You may even be successful in changing the minds of many people. Make a list of things that people can do in order to help the planet, even if it’s as simple as replacing their ordinary bulbs with LED bulbs. Once you start telling people that there are simple ways for them to help, they will be more willing to offer their support and do something to make a change.
