Your files, whether digital or printed, are important to you. You keep them because they play an important role in your life. Whether they are a reminder of a project you once did and is very proud of or if you are keeping your files for legal purposes, you want to make sure that all of them are properly kept and easy to find when you need to. And yet no matter what process you try, your files still seem to be all over the place. Not only can this be irritating, but it can be very frustrating too.

So, how do you manage the files that you have on hand. First, you have to decide, which files you want to keep and which ones you can let go of. There is a difference between being a keeper of important documents and being a keeper of trash. Whether you are dealing with printed files or the ones online, the first problem that you have when dealing with your files is the room. Do you have enough space to keep all of those that you want to keep? Now, that is a question that’s not too difficult to answer.

You know you don’t have enough room in your online memory bank to keep all those that you want, unless you are willing to pay hundreds of dollars. Only then will you realize that there are indeed files in there that you do not really need. So before you ran out of dollars because you spent it all on getting all your unnecessary files kept, here are a few tips in mind.

  • First, you have to decide which files you can delete and which ones you really need to keep. This is the first step, but definitely the most difficult. Remember to remind yourself to only keep what is necessary and life changing. If it does not meet both, then you have to set it aside.
  • Second, you might want to consider using a PDF to docx converter. PDF files are a bit heavier compared to doc files, so it is best to consider having the conversion. More importantly, doc files are easier to edit, so you won’t have any problem editing in the future.
  • Third, go through your files and sort them by chronological order or alphabetical order. Usually, the chronological order is the most effective, because files that you have kept for years might not be files you really need.
  • Fourth, put them in folders and label them. Doing so would help you go through the files carefully and if they need to be deleted, all you need is to click one folder and that’s it. Folders with labels will also easily show you whether the files you’ve kept are truly important or not.
  • Lastly, you may choose to save files in different file keeping software programs and sites. This could give you more room to keep more files that you want. When you do this, you might not need to delete nay file you still wish to keep.
