Keeping Your Laptop Travel Safe

If you must travel with your laptop, then you need to think carefully about how you are going to keep it safe for the duration of your journey, wherever you go and whatever you do. It is understandable that you might want your laptop with you when you go away, particularly if you are going away for business, but you should always think about safety.

The steps described below are recommended by Dell Company in UK. So, one must try it before handing it over to the laptop repairer.

Update your antivirus protection

It is recommended that you update your antivirus protection on a fairly regular basis anyway, to ensure that your antivirus software is up to date and working in the way that it should be. There is no better time to upgrade and protect yourself from being hacked or getting a virus from using an unknown internet network than just before you travel.

Don’t make your laptop obvious

Carrying your laptop in an obvious laptop bag is much more likely to see your laptop being targeted by thieves when you are out in public, particularly in busy, overwhelming places such as airports and train stations. Use a padded bag that could be carrying anything, and then place other items around the laptop such as blankets or scarves.

Encrypt your data

Encrypt all of your data so that even if a thief does get hold of your laptop, or somehow managed to access it, they still won’t be able to reach your files easily. At the same time as encrypting your data, why not step up your internet security as well, so that your whole computer is protected from those looking to steal files or information.

Don’t leave your computer in a hotel room

Obviously you won’t want to carry your laptop around with you all day either, but instead of leaving your computer in the hotel room you should consider asking staff to put it in the safe for you. This way, if the computer does go missing, the hotel is liable and not you. Recommended reading: 10 tips to protect your laptop from theft when traveling.
