Legend Of Grimrock Is Coming To iPad – Check It Out

Posted In Game reviews, iPad - By Techtiplib on Monday, February 16th, 2015 With No Comments »

“Legend of Grimrock” was released in 2012, and it was a promising indie game inspired from first-person dungeon crawlers, similar to “Eye of the Beholder” and “Dungeon Master”. It looks like “Legend of Grimrock” will soon be available on the iPad, too. According to official sources, the video game will premiere on iOS this spring.

About “Legend of Grimrock”

“Legend of Grimrock” is one of the coolest dungeon crawler games you’ll ever play. It is a sub-genre of several more popular versions that were huge in the 80s and 90s. During that time, computer games were meant to entertain the player, but also challenge them with the trickiest gameplays. Incredibly difficult and even a bit vicious, players would die a lot in “Legend of Grimrock”.

Legend Of Grimrock

Those with a weakness for vintage games might remember other similar names, such as “Dungeon Master”, “The Bard’s Tale”, “Stonekeep” and “Ultima Underworld”. These still evoke memories of magical moments rambling catacombs, DIY map-making, grind-based movements, and obdurate frustration disrupted by moments of unbelievable satisfaction the moment you could solve a puzzle or win a battle.

As for “Legend of Grimrock”, the game looks like it comes from a unique world. Featuring mechanics that seem old-fashioned at first, it is bizarre but in a good sense. As soon as you start to click, you’ll get this feeling of unusual frustration. It’s tough to win a battle in this picture-perfect recreation of classical dungeon crawlers. “Legend of Grimrock” skillfully blends old-school gameplay with modern visuals to make players not just visualize the experience, but also remember that playing this game now is just as compelling as it was over 20 years ago.

The iPad version of “Legend of Grimrock”

Almost Human, the developer of the 2012 version of “Legend of Grimrock”, mentioned that the game will finally be released on the iPad this 2015. The announcement was made on February 9, 2015. According to the official post, Grimrock 1 is almost completed as it has already entered the beta testing stage. What does this mean? That the video game can be played from beginning to end, and that all main features have already been implemented. The guy in charge for the iPad conversion, Juha Pinola, is now fixing residual bugs to balance the game and smooth its edges, so to speak. There are some recorded screenshots and footage with the game in action on the official Grimrock website if you want to check it out.

There’s also a Mac version for “Legend of Grimrock”, but it’s still in progress. According to Almost Human, the game can now be fully played although the brand new OpenGL renderer still requires several improvements in performance. The developers have stated that the DirectX version has been attentively optimized because that’s their main development platform. Extra optimizations are required for OpenGL to attain excellent frame rates.

The Grimrock developers are looking to launch a Beta version for Mac this month (although they haven’t settled on an exact date). Those who already have it on Steam will be able to partake in the OS X beta; Almost Human said they will immediately let fans know when the game is available for Mac, too.

We cannot wait to play “Legend of Grimrock” on the iPad. If you haven’t tried the 2012 yet, you should at least know the basics: you’re in charge of a four-character, customizable party controlled from a 1st person perspective. You can either be a lizardman, human, minotaur or insectoid. Each has advantages and disadvantages, so it is important to choose right if you want to make it alive out of the dungeon.
