The Internet is a relatively new technology. Despite this, anyone under thirty years of age has not known life without it. However, it’s not so long ago that many of the most popular online jobs didn’t even exist. The huge increase in Internet usage over the last two decades has resulted in many technology jobs that now employ millions of people around the world.

The Internet

Freelance writers

Writers have made a living for hundreds of years, but a new type of writer is now making a living working online. Without content, the internet would be useless, so there is always a demand for article writers, copywriters, SEO article writers and script writers. Today’s writers have to be able to write engaging content. Content also has to be written in a way that makes it easy to find in the main search engines like Google.

Mobile app developers

Mobile communication has led to a whole new industry, primarily the mobile app market. Apple and the Google Play stores are the main marketplaces for paid and free apps. The Apple store lets you install apps on Apple mobile devices. The Google Play store contains apps designed for Android mobile devices. The huge increase in the use of mobile devices means there is also a huge demand for people who can develop applications for these devices.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) experts

Most people who go online, use one of the main search engines which include Google, Bing and Yahoo! The search engines return the most relevant web pages when a person enters a search keyword or phrase. This is particularly important for businesses who want their products and services to appear at the top of the search results for their industry. The role of the SEO expert is to make a client’s website appear at the top of the search results when these searches are carried out. This role includes adding optimized content to websites, linking to websites and carry-on any other optimization activities that will improve the visibility of a website in the search engines.

Pay-Per-Click (PPC) consultants

Some clients are willing to spend money so that they can reach the top of the search engine results for particular keywords and phrases. Since Google introduced this type of paid advertising, there has been a need to hire PPC experts who are able to setup PPC advertising campaigns, maintain them and consult with clients.

Reputation management services

The interactive nature and size of the internet means people are able to post almost anything they wish about a person or a business. Negative reviews, comments and complaints to certain websites are a common problem for many individuals and businesses. This bad publicity often appears in the search results when someone searches for a person or business. Controlling the negative press on the net is difficult. However reputation management service providers like Profile Defenders can remove any bad search result for clients.

Virtual assistants

Outsourcing has become much easier thanks to the Internet. Many business owners can’t afford to hire full time staff to help them with various tasks such as appointment setting, call answering and other administrative tasks. However, a new role has emerged for people who need this kind of help. They are called virtual assistants and work from anywhere in the world, thanks to the technology advances made in recent years.

Website and eCommerce developers

Most businesses require a website of some description. Others sell their products and services online and require some kind of commerce capability. This has resulted in a wide range of website and eCommerce development roles that did not exist one or two decades ago.

Social Media Managers

Most businesses have a social media presence. Some have thousands of followers. Social media pages like those on Facebook are an excellent way to communicate with customers and potential customers. However, this takes time. Social media managers are experts who have developed the skills and knowledge to promote a business in a positive way through social media.

The way we work has changed, thanks to the growth of the internet. As it has grown there is a need for new types of professionals who would not have had the opportunity to work in their current career a few decades ago.
