Xiaomi has taken another leap in its smartphone segment to offer more than the predecessor. The new Mi 4 is not merely a replacement to the Mi 3, but it is an upgrade.

Design

Design wise Xiaomi has come up with a different device compared to the Mi 3. The Mi 4 is of more traditional shape and to be very frank it has taken design languages heavily from Samsung and Apple products.

The Xiaomi Mi 4 comes with flat side equipped with a shiny stainless steel rim running around it similar to what we have seen in the design of Apple’s iPhone 5. The antenna cut out style reflects to that of current design of Samsung smartphones.

Specifications and Software

Xiaomi is known for its high-end specifications at low-end price tags and the same is repeated with the Mi 4 version. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor with four CPU cores running at 2.5GHz. For the gaming users the company has equipped it with a powerful Adreno 330 GPU. The phone comes with a 3GB RAM and internal storage of 16GB.

Offering 5-inch full-HD 1080×1920-pixel IPS panel, the phone is mounted with a 13-megapixel and 8-megapixel front cameras from the stable of Sony to capture 4K videos at up to 30fps. It comes with Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac and Bluetooth 4.0 are complemented by Infrared and A-GPS for connectivity. It is fueled by a 3,080mAh battery to offer hours of browsing without the need of quick charge.

The phone runs on Android 4.4.4 operating system with Xiaomi’s MINI 6 interface on top of it. A huge selection of themes is offered for cool screens. The behavior of notification can also be changed accordingly and the phone manufacturer offers integrated audio EQ settings for different types of earphones.

Performance

The phone is equipped with a powerful hardware to run the apps snappily. The videos played without any problem and screen is not so much reflective. The battery tested 10 hours and 4 minutes of video play.

The camera performance is not disappointing like the Mi 3’s camera. It offers accurate coloring with subtle details. In low light the performance was however not up to the mark as sharpness suffered with longer exposure.

The new Xiaomi Mi 4 is of course a great phone for its price tag. It is surely to suit most people’s needs. It is one of the best things to have come out from the Chinese factory with eye-catching design, cutting-edge power and excellent custom version of Android mobile operating system.
