Why Shouldn’t You Just Drag The Apps To The Trashbin?

Yes, this method is the most common among many users of a Mac. And it’s completely fine for regular files like photos, videos, folders, music files, and similar. But You can’t just delete an app, just like you can’t simply delete any program – you have to uninstall it. By trying to delete it by dragging it to your Macs’ trashbin, you’ll just remove the shortcut, but not the entire app and it will still use your disc space.

How To Correctly Delete The Apps Manually

If you want to try and learn how to delete the apps on Mac manually, here is the way. It’s not an easy one, but this is the only way you can completely remove an app with all its’ additional files.

So the first thing you need to do is drag the app you want to remove to the trash bin. After doing that, you’ll need to locate all the places with additional files from this specific app. Check Library, which you can find through the Finder. Then, in the Preferences tab try to find files that have the same name as the app you want to remove. Delete them.

Secondly, go to the Computer and go to the Library via startup drive. Then search for files with the same name as the app as previously. When you find them, drag the unwanted files to the Trashbin. These are the main places you will see the hidden files you need to delete. You can also search for them in Application, Caches, Address Book Plug-Ins, CrashReporter, and Saved Application State.

The Easier Way – CleanMyMac And Setapp

If you want to know how to uninstall apps on mac correctly and much easier than the way explained above, especially if you’re going to delete a lot of apps, you can use an app called CleanMyMac. It has a professional uninstaller that will help you to get rid of all the additional files on your Mac by scanning it through.

It is a paid tool, but if you want to give it a go anyway, you can use the 7-day free trial that is available through the Setapp service. If you’ve never heard of Setapp, it’s a very convenient service that lets you use many different yet handy apps at once for a very small fee of $9.99 per month. The tool includes apps for productivity, personal finance, maintenance, lifestyle, and so much more.

How To Delete Apps Using Setapp

If you decide to go with the Setapp, here’s the way you can delete the unwanted apps from your Mac. First, launch the Setapp and run the CleanMyMac app. After doing that, find the Uninstaller on the left side. After clicking it, all apps on your Mac will be displayed. When you locate the app you want to remove, just click the checkbox next to it. This will show you all the locations that this app has placed files in.

You don’t need to manually go to all those locations and delete the files yourself. Simply click the “Complete Uninstallation” option. You can do this to multiple apps at once, so this will save you even more time.
